Phil Sprenkle of the LHU wrestling team has been named this week’s Susquehanna Trailways/GoLHU.com Men’s Athlete of the Week.

Sprenkle wrapped up his LHU wrestling career over the weekend in New York City at the NCAA Division I Championships. Sprenkle was 2-2 over the weekend, with impressive wins over the nine and ten seeds at 197 pounds. His first victory came against Rueben Franklin of Cal State Bakersfield in a thrilling match; Sprenkle trailed 1-0 after two periods, but ended up winning 8-6 after an exciting third period. Sprenkle began the third period down and the scoring frenzy started with him earning a quick reversal. Both Sprenkle and Franklin put it all on the line in the final minute, and Sprenkle hung on to advance.

His second victory of the tournament came against the 10^th seed, Mitch Huntley of Michigan. In a dominating performance, Sprenkle broke Huntley by the end of the second period and forced a disqualification. After a quick takedown in the first period, Sprenkle went to work on Huntley. After not making an attempt to get out from bottom Huntley was given a stall warning. By the end of the first period Sprenkle forced two more stall calls. Sprenkle chose down at the beginning of the second period, he reversed out early then rode Huntley out. Huntley got his fifth stall call at the end of the period, giving Sprenkle the win by disqualification.
