Vision Statement:
Lock Haven University intercollegiate athletics will provide a respectful and supportive family environment that values and embraces a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture for the LHU Athletics community.
 


Mission Statement:

The mission of the Lock Haven University Athletics Social Justice Task Force is to promote an enriching and supportive climate that allows every student-athlete to succeed.  The Athletics Social Justice Task Force seeks to collaborate with various units to provide a comprehensive, community-wide approach to diversity, inclusivity and equity.  Through strategic planning and program development, we hope to empower the LHU athletics community to build a diverse, inclusive, and respectful environment, ensuring the community is a place where all will thrive and recognize their transformative value in an ever-changing global society.

LHU athletics believes in fostering a culture of open-mindedness, compassion and inclusiveness to achieve excellence in athletic, academic, social and community endeavors.

LHU athletics believes in promoting a climate where fairness, impartiality and equality are essential to creating a network of allies for social justice as well as relationships within the LHU athletics community.
 
Advocating for Social Justice and Cultural Growth
LHU athletics strongly advocates for principles of unity and understanding and believes social justice is an underlying principle that influences meaningful action towards continuous cultural growth within the LHU athletics community.
 
Collaborative Leadership for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity
LHU athletics respects and values the voice of all constituents, especially our student-athletes, and is specifically focused on developing socially responsible student athletes who can lead progressive growth within the department, campus and community.
 


Task Force Objectives:
  • Conduct diversity climate survey of the department on a regular basis.
  • Enhance knowledge about social justice issues through educational programming, supporting departmental discussions and dialogue, and multi-media campaigns.
  • Create and support a minority student-athlete alliance
  • Establish and support a hotline system for the LHU athletics community to access for the purpose of relaying or discussing concerns regarding diversity, equity and inclusion.  
  • Establish a social media presence to build a connection with the LHU athletics family and to serve as a communication tool for task force initiatives.
  • Increase engagement opportunities within the greater Lock Haven community
  • Conduct exercises and training for implicit bias, microaggressions, allyship, and other similar topics for the LHU athletics community.
  • Continued efforts to recognize and impact structural practices so to emphasize and celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion for athletics staff and student-athletes.
  • Encourage and provide support to meet challenges and opportunities of recruiting, retaining and graduating a diverse student-athlete body.
