For the third time this season sophomore
Alex Monroe (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) of the Lock Haven University men's cross country team has been named the
www.GoLHU.com Male Athlete of the Week.
Earlier today he was named the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) Division II Atlantic Region Men's Athlete of the Year.
Racing for the just the third time this season, Monroe took home the individual title at last weekend's Atlantic Region Championships.
Monroe covered the 10K course in 31:39 to lead Lock Haven to a second-place finish.
By way of the second-place showing, the Bald Eagles earned a return to trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships in Spokane, Wash., on Saturday, November 19.
Monroe's action was limited until recently because he rookie track season stretched deep into the summer after he earned a spot on the United States National Team at the Junior Pan American Games.
Monroe ended up winning the bronze medal in the 10K at the Jr. Pan Am games and is coming off a title at this year's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Cross Country Championships.
The sophomore-sensation is a perfect 2-for-2 in championship races this year and looks to earned All-American status for the second consecutive season.
