Chance Marsteller of the LHU wrestling team has been named this week’s Susquehanna Trailways/GoLHU.com Men’s Athlete of the Week.
On Saturday (Jan. 27) night in the dual’s marquee bout, No. 8 Chance Marsteller upset No. 4 and previously unbeaten Chad Walsh of Rider, 8-4. Marsteller put on a clinic and dominated the two-time All-American for seven minutes.
Walsh, a two-time All-American, entered the night at 16-0, but Marsteller was clinical in victory and proved to be way much for Walsh. Marsteller entered the night ranked No. 8 in the NCAA coaches' panel rankings No. 6 by InterMat. Walsh was tabbed at No. 4 in the NCAA coaches' panel rankings and No. 3 in the latest InterMat poll.
Marsteller and Walsh were scoreless after one period, but Marsteller went to work in the second and led 4-2 after two, thanks for a pair of takedowns. Marsteller earned a quick third-period reversal and cruised to a dominating 8-4 win, adding a late takedown to win going away.
On Sunday, Marsteller moved to 32-1 on the season with a tech fall in the dual vs. Columbia (W, 20-4 vs. Max Elling.)
