Mac Maldarelli (Merrick, N.Y./Nassau C.C.) of the Lock Haven University wrestling team has been named the GoLhu.com male athlete of the week.
Earlier in the week, Maldarelli was named the PSAC Wrestler of the Week.
With the match on the line Sunday against rival West Virginia, Maldarelli came up huge.
The match with the Mountaineers began at 157 pounds and things were tied 15-15 heading into the day's final bout at 149.
Maldarelli shined under the spotlight and earned an 8-0 major decision over WVU's Timothy Wheeling at 149-pounds, which sealed the team-victory for The Haven.
The win was the first for Lock Haven over West Virginia since 2005 and snapped a seven-match losing streak to WVU.
Maldarelli was nothing short of spectacular, as he dominated Wheeling for the entire match on the way to the 8-0 shutout.
Maldarelli scored a late, first-period takedown to lead 2-0 after one. Starting the second period down, Maldarelli scored on a quick escape and a takedown as he jumped out to a commanding 5-0 lead after just two periods. In the third period, Maldarelli tilted Timothy Wheeling for a pair of points and collected a 2:52 riding time advantage on the way to the major that sealed the huge victory for The Haven.
With the win, Maldarelli improved to 13-7 on the year.
He is the first Bald Eagle this season to receive PSAC Wrestler of the Week honors.
