BOX SCORE
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (10-4, 1-0 A-10) made their Atlantic 10 (A-10) Conference debut a memorable one as the Lady Eagles downed visiting Richmond (4-8, 0-1 A-10) 2-1 today on Charlotte Smith Field.
The Haven, playing in the A-10 for the first year extended its win streak to eight matches.
A huge key for Lock Haven today was the play of
Leslie Ahern (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville North), who had a three-point afternoon.
She set up LHU's first goal after a long run down the right side of the field and deflected home The Haven's second tally in the second half.
Amy Hordendorf (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) took Ahern's pass in the 15th minute to make it 1-0 in favor of LHU.
The Spiders responded with a goal of their own less than 10 minutes later.
It was a hard-fought, back and forth affair throughout and in the 42nd minute Lock Haven took the lead after Ahern deflected home a hard shot from the top of the crease.
The Lady Eagles got another solid defensive effort and were led by
Kelly Harsh (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor), who helped shutdown the Spiders, who only managed five shots.
Lock Haven goalie
Erin Terreson (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) was only called upon to make one stop.
Lock Haven returns to action on Friday, October 15 at the University of Massachusetts.
