LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team is set for a busy week of action as the Bald Eagles hit the mats for a trio of duals.
Lock Haven kicks off the week on Thursday, December 9 at Lewistown High School in Lewistown, Pa. in a tri-match with visiting Millersville and Ohio Universities.
On Sunday, December 12, the Bald Eagles will travel the short distance to take on local-rival Penn State, ranked No. 6 in the nation.
On Thursday, the action in Lewistown begins at 5 p.m. with Millersville taking on Ohio. Lock Haven will face off with Millersville at approximately 6:30 p.m. LHU and Ohio will close out the exciting night of wrestling at approx. 8 p.m.
The match on Sunday at PSU is set for a 2 p.m. start.
The Bald Eagles are coming off a fourth-place showing at the 68th annual Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. The Haven was led by redshirt-sophomore
Harry Turner (Howell, N.J./Howell), who took home the individual title at 285-pounds.
Evan Kolb (Coopersburg, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and Mike Khoury (Edgewater, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional) both took second for LHU at 133 and 174, respectively.
Lock Haven is 2-1 in dual action after starting the year at the Hershey Duals back on November 13.
Lock Haven dropped its first match of the day, falling to North Carolina 19-16, but the Bald Eagles bounced back with wins over George Mason (23-12) and Drexel (23-21).
Matt Bonson (Lewistown, Pa./UVA), who will be out of the lineup this week had a huge day for the Bald Eagles and went 3-0 at 141-pounds in dominating fashion. He opened the day with a 6-4 over North Carolina's Danny Lopes.
Bonson followed that up with a tech fall win in the George Mason match and added a 13-1 major decision over Drexel's Josh Yurasits.
Turner was also 3-0 at 285-pounds and then clinched the win over Drexel with a solid 5-0 win against Max Wright.
Seth Creasy (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) was solid for The Haven. After dropping his first bout of the day, he responded in a huge way with sensational performances against George Mason and Drexel.
Creasy picked up a 10-2 major decision over George Mason's Ty Knepp and cruised past Drexel's Charles Aungst 10-0 for his second consecutive major.
Khoury, a true-freshman bounced back from a loss to open the day with a pair of wins to close things out.
Khoury has been a huge key for Lock Haven thus far and was also crowned champion at the Mat Town Open.
Millersville is 0-0 on the year and coming off a sixth-place showing at last weekend's PSAC Championships. LHU is 35-3-1 all-time vs. the Marauders and won 36-9 last year. Last year, the Bald Eagles won seven of 10 bouts and extend their win streak to 23 matches over Millersville.
Ohio (1-0) is coming off a 26-21 win over Appalachian State. LHU and Ohio haven't met since 2002, when the Bobcats won 37-3. LHU is 5-2 all-time vs. OU.
No. 6 Penn State was solid at its own Nittany Lion Open last week, crowning four individual champs. PSU is 5-0 on the year. The Nittany Lions beat Lock Haven 32-6 last year and lead the all-time series 31-4. The Haven's last win over State came in 2002.
