Bald Eagles hit the road this weekend for a pair of EWL matches

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team is set to the hit the road this weekend for a pair of Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) duals.

The Bald Eagles kick off the weekend tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 22) at perennial national power Edinboro University. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start.

The Haven follows up the Edinboro match with a Sunday (Jan. 23) scuffle with Cleveland State (1 p.m.).

Lock Haven is 4-6 overall and 0-1 in EWL action after opening league action last Friday at home against No. 22 Pitt. Despite, back-to-back wins at 125 and 133 to open the night, Lock Haven fell 33-6.

One of those two wins came from redshirt-junior John Trumbetti (Montvale, N.J./St. Joseph Regional), who has finally found his form from last year where he finished as a National Qualifier at 133.

Trumbetti, the reigning EWL and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Wrestler of the Week went 6-0. Along with his one win over Pitt's Shelton Mack, Trumbetti went 5-0 on the way to the individual title at Millersville's Shorty Hitchcock Classic.

Edinboro is 4-8-1 on the year and will take on Eastern Michigan at 4 p.m. prior to the Fighting Scots match with Lock Haven. The match with LHU will mark Edinboro's EWL opener.

Cleveland State is 3-7 on the season and the Sunday match with LHU will mark its league opener.

Lock Haven is 17-27 all-time vs. Edinboro, who is coming off an 18-16 loss to Buffalo.

The Haven leads the all-time series with Cleveland State 22-10. Cleveland State last time out saw a trio of dual losses to Army Rutgers and Merchant Marine Academy.

Following Sunday's match with Cleveland State, the Bald Eagles will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 29 when they host West Virginia at 7 p.m.
