ERIE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team (0-6, 0-4 PSAC West) was downed 37-13 today at Gannon University (3-4, 2-2 PSAC West) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action as the two teams battled it out in heavy rain and gusting winds.
Gannon led 9-7 at halftime and the Golden Knights used a 21-point fourth quarter to put The Haven away.
Down 9-0 late in the first quarter, the Bald Eagles defense came up big.
Ben Snyder (Ickesburg, Pa./West Perry) picked off Gannon quarterback Daniel Tapscott and returned the ball 11 yards for the touchdown.
It marked the first time since 2006 (Mansfield) that a Bald Eagle returned an interception for a touchdown.
Snyder's interception-TD made it 9-7. He was one of four Bald Eagles to finish with six tackles on the day.
Lock Haven's second touchdown of the day came with 6:16 left in the game and made the score 30-13 in favor of host-Gannon.
Devin Sims (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) caught a 24-yard pass from backup quarterback
Shawn Faulk (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield). The touchdown capped off a five-play, 40-yard drive, but LHU's two-point pass attempt failed.
Jarrett Kratzer (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) made his first start of the season under center and he went 6-for-13 for 73 yards and threw one interception.
Faulk was 5-for-17 with the touchdown pass and a pair of interceptions.
Sims caught five passes for 33 yards.
Skyler Wool (Waterville, Pa./Jersey Shore) and
Matt Kirchner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) both made seven tackles for LHU.
Gannon was led by Alex Papson's 108 yards on the ground. He scored one touchdown for the Golden Knights.
Lock Haven returns home next Saturday, October 22 to host Slippery Rock at noon in The Haven's 2011 Homecoming game.
