Lady Eagles close season with thrilling 2-1 win over Temple on Haven’s Senior Day

LHU ends year with three-game win streak

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
The Lock Haven University field hockey team (10-10, 3-3 A-10) closed out the 2011 season with a dramatic 2-1 Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) win over visiting Temple University (8-12, 4-2 A-10).

Lock Haven ended the 2011 season on a three-game win streak and sent the Lady Eagles four seniors out with a bang.

LHU went up 1-0 in the 21st minute after Kelly Harsh (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) ripped home a penalty corner shot low that beat the Owl goalie.

Najia Hasan (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) and Leslie Ahern (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville North) were credited with assists on the Harsh goal.

Temple picked up the pace early in the second half and scored a game-tying goal in the 39th minute.

In the 43rd minute of play LHU was rewarded a penalty stroke after a speedy Kristi Shepps (Willow Street, Pa./Penn Manor) broke in past the defense.

Megan Evans (East Greenville, Pa./Christopher Dock) converted for the eventual game-winner.

Goalie Lindsay Staufenberg (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) made her last Haven start a special one. She made four saves to improve to 8-5 on the year.

The Lady Eagles took time today to honor their four seniors in Ahern, Hasan, Shepps and Staufenberg.

Ahern, who had the first-half assist today, finished the year with a team-high 36 points (12 goals & 12 assists).

Shepps finished her career with 47 goals, the 10th best mark in school history.

Hasan had three goals and four assists this year for LHU and Staufenberg made a team-best 49 saves.

Today's win puts LHU at .500 on year with their 10-10 mark. LHU was 3-3 in A-10 play and is now 8-5 in two years of Atlantic 10 field hockey.
