LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (7-8, 0-1 A-10) opened Atlantic 10 (A-10) play today at home with a 2-1 loss to conference-rival University of Massachusetts (3-8, 1-0 A-10).
Lock Haven led 1-0 at halftime, but UMass scored two second half goals to take home the win.
Today's match was the conference opener for both teams.
Kristi Shepps (Willow Street, Pa./Penn Manor) put the Lady Eagles up 1-0 just 8:12 into the match when she knocked home a Nicole Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) cross.
Massachusetts tied the match at 1-1 in the 43rd minute and tacked on the eventual game-winner with less than 10 minutes to play in the fast-paced thriller.
