HAMPTON, Va. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (0-1) opened 2011 season today as the Bald Eagles made their annual trip to the Builder Baseball Invitational, hosted by the Apprentice School, but LHU fell to No. 5 Kutztown University (2-2) 22-1.
The Bald Eagles took an early lead in the top of the second inning after
Corey Fassett (Tunkhannock, Pa./Lackawanna College) got his first hit as a Bald Eagle, driving in the only run of the game for Lock Haven.
Fassett went 1-for-2 with a RBI and five putouts at second base.
Andrew Simonik (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) got the start for Lock Haven going four innings, while giving up seven hits and two walks.
Simonik struck out six batters and allowed zero earned runs.
It was 1-1 after two inning and Kutztown pulled away with a six-run bottom half of the fourth.
Lock Haven's one run came off four hits. Those four hits came from four different Bald Eagles.
The Bald Eagles will be back in action tomorrow Friday, Feb. 18 as they play a doubleheader in Hampton, Va. At 3p.m. Lock Haven will battle against Briarcliffe College and at 6 p.m. the will take on the Bloomsburg Huskies.
