SALISBURY, N.C. – The Lock Haven University softball team improved to 4-0 with a pair of wins today on Day 2 of the Catawba Tournament in Salisbury, N.C.
The Lady Eagles opened the day with a 14-0 (5 inn.) win over Winston Salem State and LHU followed that up with a 4-0 win over Fairmont State in the nightcap.
In game one today, LHU cruised past Winston Salem 14-0 thanks to a solid pitching outing by
Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) and an early-season offensive explosion.
Alicia Cacciotti (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) got the offense jump started with a three-RBI double in the first inning. She was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Brittany Muthard (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
Smith picked up her second win in as many days after four innings of work. She struck out three, allowed two walks and gave up just three hits.
Ariel Keidel (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) threw the final inning and stuck out one.
Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) picked up the win over Fairmont State. She went the distance, scattering eight hits over seven innings.
Morse recorded nine strikeouts as the Lady Eagles continue to dominate in the pitching circle.
Erin Clary (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) was very solid at the plate in her leadoff role. She was 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
Muthard was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Smith was 2-for-4 with a one RBI and
Amanda Fernandez (Cheltenham, Pa./Nazareth Academy) rounded out a solid hitting day for Lock Haven with a 2-for-4 effort. Fernandez drove in one run.
The Lady Eagles are right back at it tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 26) at noon when they take on Lenoir-Rhyne to finish up play at the Catawba Tournament.
