LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (16-5, 2-0 PSAC Central) swept visiting Clarion University (5-5, 0-2 PSAC Central) to open PSAC Central Division play today on Lawrence Field.
Despite the cold temperatures, the Lady Eagles offense exploded for 15 runs over the two-game span and won 7-1 and 8-2.
Lock Haven also got sensational efforts from their starting pitches.
Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) struck out four on the way to a complete-game win in game one today. She allowed just three hits and one earned run.
Brittany Muthard (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) hit a two-run home run and Bridgett Clarke (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead to The Haven's offense.
LHU's seven runs came off eight hits.
In game two,
Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) led LHU to the 8-2 win. She was dominate in the complete-game effort and struck out seven.
The Lady Eagles jumped on Clarion early, scoring three runs in the first and second innings.
Brittany Pataky (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI.
Smith and Muthard each had two RBIs in the game-two win.
The Lady Eagles are right back at it tomorrow (Tuesday, March 29) at 2:30 when they host No. 16 and local-rival Bloomsburg in PSAC Central action.
