LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (22-9, 8-4 PSAC Central) swept today's PSAC Central doubleheader from Clarion University (6-14, 1-9 PSAC Central), 1-0 and 11-1 (5 innings).
Alicia Cacciotti (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) was the difference in game one as her solo shot to lead off the sixth inning broke up Erica Burkey's perfect game and proved to be the eventual game-winning run.
It was Cacciotti's fifth home run of the year and it couldn't have come at bigger time.
Lock Haven finished with three hits as Burkey was very solid for Clarion.
Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) improved to 11-5 after a four-hit, complete-game effort. She walked only three and struck out one in the game-one pitcher's duel.
The Lady Eagles offense came alive in game two as The Haven posted 11 runs on 15 hits in just five innings of play.
LHU jumped on Clarion early posting five runs in the top half of the second. Lock Haven added two runs in the third and four in the fourth.
Brittany Pataky (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) was Lock Haven's big bat in game two as she went a perfect 3-for-3. She scored twice and drove in two runs.
Kelsey Mullins (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored.
Erin Clary (New Freedom, Pa/Susquehannock) tallied three RBIs.
Brittany Muthard (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) got into the act with one RBI after going 2-for-3.
Cacciotti was solid as well and went 2-for-2 to follow up her game-one heroics.
Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) improved to 11-4 with the win. She recorded four strikeouts.
*Special note: In both games today, Clarion was listed as the home team, but the games were played at LHU because of field conditions.
The Lady Eagles will play at No. 24 IUP at 2:30 tomorrow (Friday, April 15) in a PSAC Central doubleheader showdown.
