CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (25-12) fell to West Chester University (33-17) 12-7 today on the second day of play at the PSAC Championships.
The loss is Lock Haven's second of the tournament and eliminates LHU from the PSAC Tournament.
West Chester led 12-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh after the Golden Rams used an eight-run top half of the seventh to grab a commanding lead.
The Lady Eagles did everything they could to spark another rally, but could only come up with three runs.
Alicia Cacciotti (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) had another strong outing at the plate. She went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and one run scored.
Brittany Muthard (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) was 2-for-3 and drove in one run.
Erin Clary (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.
Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) and
Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) combined for two strikeouts in the pitcher's circle. Smith got the start and went 1.2 innings, before giving way to Morse, who was charged with the loss.
The Lady Eagles will now wait to see if they receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The 2011 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships are set to begin on Thursday, May 12.
