BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (25-13) dropped its opening game of the 2011 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament to West Virginia Wesleyan (47-6) 7-1 today at Bloomsburg University.

The Bobcats posted their seven runs on nine hits, while Lock Haven got its one run on three hits.

The Haven's three hits game from three different players and Brittany Pataky (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) scored Lock Haven's lone run in the top of the fifth inning on a passed ball.

Stephanie St. Peter led West Virginia Wesleyan with a 2-for-4 plate performance. She hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to jump start the Bobcats.

Pataky crossed the plate in the top of fifth to make it 4-1.

Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) got the start in the pitcher's circle and went four innings before giving way to Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) at the start of the bottom of the fifth.

Smith gave up four earned runs and walked one before Morse came in. Morse gave up three unearned runs and struck out one.

In today's first game, the Bloomsburg Huskies took down Shippensburg 2-1.

Lock Haven will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, May 14) as 2011 NCAA DII Atlantic Region Tournament action continues at Bloomsburg. LHU will play Shippensburg tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Bloomsburg and West Virginia Wesleyan will play at 11 a.m.
