LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team dropped a hard fought non-conference match to local-rival and No. 8 Penn State 5-2 tonight on Charlotte E. Smith Field.
With the loss the Lady Eagles fall to 1-2 on the year, while PSU improves to 2-1.
Penn State struck early and took the 1-0 lead in just the 11th minute of play.
The Haven responded quick as Kelly Harsch (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) knocked home a penalty corner attempt less than three minutes later.
Just over midway through the first half, Penn State went up 2-1 and the Lady Lions held that 2-1 lead at the break.
PSU struck quickly in the second half, but
Najia Hasan (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) scored in the 51st minute to make it 3-2 and give LHU life.
Penn State offense stayed strong and scored two more goals late in the half.
Lindsay Staufenberg (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) was sensational in goal for Lock Haven and finished with 14 saves.
The Lady Eagles travel to Cornell on Sunday (September 4) for a 2 p.m. non-conference match.
