OAKDALE, N.Y. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team opened the season today with a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 win over Charleston as part of the Dowling College Tournament.
The Lady Eagles trailed 2-0 (20-25 & 25-21), but battled back to take the final three sets 25-21, 25-22 and 15-7.
Leading the way was
Gao Xuan (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School), who had 14 kills and 10 digs.
Haley Gribler (Powell, Ohio/Olentagny-Liberty) had a solid night hitting for LHU and finished with 12 kills.
Bailey Farthing (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) and
Grace Novacek (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) both added seven kills.
Novacek was solid all-around and also had three solo blocks and three block assists.
Alexa Garrity (Boothwyn, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) paced the attack with 40 assists.
Defensively,
Erin Walsh (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) had 21 digs and
Monica Brown (Omaha, Neb./Iowa Western C.C.) added 11.
The Lady Eagles are right back at it tomorrow (Saturday, September 3). LHU takes on Bentley at 10 a.m. and host-Dowling at 2 p.m.
