ITHACA, N.Y. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team fell to host Cornell 3-2 today in non-conference action.
The Lady Eagles went up 1-0 just 4:10 into the match off a goal from
Najia Hasan (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wyoming Seminary).
Hasan's goal, which came off an assist from
Leslie Ahern (Getzville, Pa./Williamsville North) had LHU leading 1-0 at the break.
Cornell responded in a big way and scored three straight second-half goals to make it 3-1.
Lock Haven rallied and made it 3-2 in the 57th minute on a goal by
Kristi Shepps (Willow Street, Pa./Penn Manor). Ahern was again the playmaker on the goal and was credited with an assist.
Lindsay Staufenberg (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) made two saves for LHU in the losing effort.
With the win, Cornell moves to 2-0, while LHU falls to 1-3 on the year.
The Lady Eagles return home on Wednesday, September 7 at 6 p.m. to host Saint Francis (Pa.) University.
