Box Score SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (13-9, 8-3 PSAC) downed Shippensburg University (17-8, 7-4 PSAC) on the road today, 3-1 in a PSAC East matchup.
The Lady Eagles came out firing on all cylinders and edged out SHIP in the first two sets of the match, 25-23 and 25-21. After losing the third set 24-26, LHU rallied to take the fourth set 25-17 and secured the 3-1 victory.
Senior
Gao Xuan (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School) had an all-around outstanding match for LHU. The senior outside hitter led The Haven with 21 kills. Xuan was also tremendous defensively and posted 11 digs and three blocks.
Bailey Farthing (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) was solid offensively and recorded 15 kills in the match.
Grace Novacek (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell),
Alex Brehony (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) and Kayleigh Hudak (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom High) had seven kills each.
Alexa Garrity (Boothwyn, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) had The Haven offense on point all day. Garrity dished out 49 assists in the match.
Erin Walsh (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) led the Lady Eagles defensively with 22 digs.
Bethany Burns (Erie, Pa./McDowell) chipped in with 11 digs for The Haven.
Jessica Brown (Fawn-Grove, Pa./Kennard-Dale) was dominant serving the ball all match and she recorded eight aces on the day.
Walsh and Farthing added two aces each for LHU.
The Lady Eagles return home Tuesday (October 16) when they host East Stroudsburg in a PSAC East matchup at Thomas Fieldhouse. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
