Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (15-9, 10-3 PSAC) swept Kutztown University (10-15, 2-10 PSAC) 3-0 on the road tonight in a PSAC East matchup.
The Haven took control early and took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-22. LHU looked to complete the sweep in the third set with a commanding 24-14 lead, but Kutztown would not go down quietly and scored 10 straight points to knot the set at 24-24. The Lady Eagles battled back however, and won the set 27-25 to complete the sweep.
Gao Xuan (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School) led LHU with 12 kills and three aces in the match.
Grace Novacek (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and
Bailey Farthing (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) both had strong matches offensively, as they recorded 11 and nine kills, respectively.
Haven setter
Alexa Garrity (Boothwyn, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) had the offense flowing all night and dished out 38 assists.
Erin Walsh (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem) anchored The Haven defense and she recorded 21 digs in the match.
Farthing and Garrity each had four blocks on the night.
Jessica Brown (Fawn Grove, Pa./Kennard-Dale) chipped in with two aces for The Haven.
With tonight's win the Lady Eagles secured their 10th conference win of the season, marking the fifth straight year that LHU has recorded double-digit wins in conference play.
The Lady Eagles are right back in action tomorrow (October 20) as they celebrate homecoming weekend by hosting Virginia Union and Concord at Thomas Fieldhouse. LHU plays Virginia Union at 11 a.m. and Concord at 3 p.m.
