Volleyball celebrates Homecoming by sweeping Virginia Union and Concord

Lady Eagles record fourth straight sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (17-9, 10-3 PSAC) swept Virginia Union and Concord today in straight sets at Thomas Fieldhouse on Homecoming weekend at The Haven.

LHU started the day off with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12 & 25-11) sweep of Virginia Union.

The Haven displayed a balanced attack in the match, as five different Lady Eagles recorded four kills or more.

Cody Anderson (Johnsonburg, Pa./Johnsonburg) led LHU with seven kills and hit .778 in the match.

Freshman Megan Flick (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) recorded six kills for The Haven and Lauren Dentler (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), Stephanie Doherty (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) and Kaleigh Hudak (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom High) each had four kills.

Erin Walsh (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) led The Haven with 17 digs.

Jessica Brown (Fawn Grove, Pa./Kennard-Dale) recorded a match-high 20 assists and added five digs.

Flick and Doherty added five and four digs, respectively.

LHU came out strong in its second match and swept Concord 3-0 (25-12, 25-14 & 25-11)

Again, the Lady Eagles displayed a balanced offense, as three players recorded double-digit kills.

Gao Xuan (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School) led the way with 15 kills on just 19 attempts with no errors.  She hit .789 in the match.

Hudak and Bailey Farthing (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) also tallied double-digit kills, with 11 and 10, respectively.

Grace Novacek (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) chipped in with eight kills for The Haven.

Alexa Garrity (Boothwyn, Pa/Cardinal O'Hara) posted an outstanding 48 assists in the match and she added seven digs, three kills and three aces.

Walsh again led The Haven defensively with 17 digs.

Xuan had 12 digs in the match.

With today's wins, LHU has now swept four straight opponents and has not lost a set since October 13 when they dropped one set to Shippensburg in a 3-1 victory.

The Lady Eagles return to action Friday, October 26, when they host West Chester University at Thomas Fieldhouse.  LHU will be celebrating “Dig Pink” during the match and will wear special pink uniforms to support breast cancer awareness.  The Lady Eagles encourage all fans attending the match to wear pink and will be selling pink shirts at the match.
