Bald Eagles close out season with thrilling 15-7 win over Cheyney, snap 52-game losing streak

Haven ends nation’s longest losing streak with thrilling 15-7 win over Cheyney in defensive grudge match; first win for LHU in last five seasons

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team snapped the nation's longest losing streak and capped off the 2012 season with a thrilling 15-7 win over visiting Cheyney today in front of a rocking, standing-room-only crowd at Hubert Jack Stadium.

Lock Haven (1-10) picked up its first win in exactly five years, snapping a 52-game losing streak.

The Haven's last win came in the 2007 season finale (Nov. 10, 2007) at Clarion, 17-14 (OT).

Lock Haven led 12-7 with 4:43 left in the game when senior Noah Heimer (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) hit a 23-yard field goal, which gave Lock Haven the insurance they needed.

Heimer's field goal made it 15-7 Lock Haven.

Following Heimer's field goal, the defense, much like it had done all day long, came up huge and forced a Cheyney (1-10) punt.

Facing fourth-and-one with just over two minutes to play, senior quarterback Jarrett Kratzer (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) got the first down LHU needed and the Bald Eagles went to victory formation for the first time in 52 games, much to the delight of the home faithful.

The Bald Eagles defense came into its own over the last four weeks of the season and today was no different. Lock Haven forced five fumbles and a safety.

The Haven defense was led by Matt Kirchner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Ryan Good (Tower City, Pa./Williams Valley), who both made seven tackles. Kircher forced two of Lock Haven's five forced-fumbles and recovered one.

Skyler Wool (Waterville, Pa./Jersey Shore) made six tackles.

Lock Haven went up early after the Bald Eagles went up 2-0 just 7:57 into the game on a safety.

With 10:45 left in the first half, true-freshman Alex Boumerhi (Phillipsburg, Pa./Phillipsburg-Osceola) hit a 37-yard field goal to make it 5-0.
Lock Haven made it 12-0 with 14:23 to play after rookie Beau Swales (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) scored his first career TD. His two-yard run capped off a six-play, 21-yard drive.

Cheyney wasn't about to fold however, and just 4:29 after Swales' TD, the Wolves found the end zone and made it 12-7.

Heimer's field goal with 5:03 left helped ice the win.

Kratzer, who made his 24th career start at QB, finished the game 10-for-19 passing for 127 yards.

Redshirt-junior Brandon Brader (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) recorded his first 100-yard rushing game of the season, leading LHU to the win.

Brader had 110 yards on 23 carries.

Prior to the game, the Bald Eagles honored their 13-member senior class. The senior class honored the home faithful with the first win of their career as the Bald Eagle fans rushed the field in celebration.

R-Jr. TB Brandon Brader rushed for 110 yards and is now eighth all-time in career rushing yards with 1,825. He is fifth all-time in rushing attempts with 527.

Fifth-year QB Jarrett Kratzer made his 24th career start today. He ends his career third all-time in pass attempts (717) and third all-time in completions (736). He's also 10th all-time in punt yards (he was the punter prior to this season).
