Five players score in double-figures as men’s hoops rolls in season opener

Bald Eagles close out play at Wolf’s Bus Lines Classic tomorrow (November 17) vs. Chestnut Hill

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa.  – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (1-0) opened its 2012-13 season today with a 95-74 win over Salem International University (2-2) on the first day of play at the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic hosted by Shippensburg University.

The win marked the first in the career of second year head coach and Shippensburg alum, Mike Nestor.

The 21-point win is the first 20-point win for LHU since January 13, 2000 when The Haven beat Baptist Bible College 98-76.

LHU played a strong first half and led 48-42 at the break.  Lock Haven shot 62% (18-for-29) from the field in the period and held Salem to just 36% (12-for-33) shooting.

Sophomore guards Terrell Johnson (Philadelphia/Imhotep Charter) and Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti) paced The Haven in the opening period.

Johnson had a team-high 12 points at the break and Hepburn netted 10.

The Haven kept on rolling in the second half, led by an extremely efficient offense.  LHU shot 66.7% (34-for-51), which is the third best team shooting percentage in Lock Haven school history.

LHU put five players in double figures on the night, led by Hepburn's game-high 25.  He added a team-high nine rebounds and six assists.

Forward Kasheef Festus (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll) was dominate down low for The Haven, as he netted 19 points on 8-for-9 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds on the night.

Johnson finished with 16 points and six assists.

Freshman Dave Garcia (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mt. East) hit two three's to lead LHU and he finished with 13 points.

Senior Andre Rivers (Philadelphia/Girard College) netted 12 points and added five rebounds on the night.

Today's win marked the first for the Bald Eagles since December 4, 2010, when LHU downed Bloomsburg 54-51.  It snapped a 44-game losing streak.

Lock Haven closes out the Wolfs Bus Lines Classic tomorrow (November 17) when The Haven takes on Chestnut Hill.  Tipoff from Shippensburg's Heiges Field House is scheduled for 3 p.m.
