Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (1-1, 1-0 PSAC) notched its first win of the season today in the 2012 home opener, as the Lady Eagles downed Mansfield University (0-1, 0-1 PSAC) 82-44.
Lock Haven, who had a great defensive game plan, forced 16 first half turnovers and led 30-28 at the break.
Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) led LHU in the first period with eight points on 3-for-6 shooting from the field.
The Haven turned it up in the second half and the Lady Eagles dominated Mansfield on both ends of the floor, outscoring the Mounties 52-16 in the period.
The Haven shot 58.8% (20-for-34) in the second half and held Mansfield to just 25% (6-for-24) shooting.
Lock Haven scored 32 points off of 34 Mansfield turnovers in the game, including 20 in the second half.
Moyer led all scorers with 16 points on the night. She also grabbed eight rebounds for LHU.
Emily Daugherty (Laughlintown, Pa./Ligonier) netted 13 points for Lock Haven to go along with five rebounds and two steals.
The Lady Eagles got a tremendous effort from their bench tonight, as The Haven reserves scored 35 points, including 25 in the second half.
J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) sparked Lock Haven's dominant second half. The freshman guard scored all 12 of her points in the second period and she went 2-for-3 from three-point-land.
Syvae McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J./California (Pa.)) was also solid off the bench for LHU. She scored 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting in the game.
Rachael McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J./California (Pa.)) and
Kacie Hershey (Cochranville, Pa./Octorara) each had eight points for LHU.
The Lady Eagles return to action in two weeks, (November 28) when they host Notre Dame (Ohio) at Thomas Fieldhouse in non-conference action. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m.
