Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti) dropped 30 points today, but the Lock Haven University men's basketball team (2-2, 0-1 PSAC) fell to Millersville (4-2, 1-0 PSAC), 87-79 in its PSAC opener at Thomas Fieldhouse.
Hepburn was sensational in the game, netting his 30 points on 10-for-21 shooting from the field.
Hepburn is the first Bald Eagle to score 30 points in a game since Eric Brennan scored 31 against Gannon on February 2, 2010.
Hepburn also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds to record his first career double-double at LHU.
Lock Haven got off to a tremendous start tonight and The Haven used a 14-0 run to take a 28-10 lead with 9:03 to play in the first half.
The hot start to the game was sparked by
Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley), who came off the bench to score eight points in the opening period.
Walters finished with 10 points on the night.
The Haven led 41-31 at the break and shot 51.6% (16-for-31) from the field in the half.
Millersville chipped away at LHU's lead throughout the second half and the finally evened the score at 50-50 with 10:08 to play.
The final 10 minutes saw six different lead changes, as the two teams battled back and forth.
Trailing 67-64 with 3:50 remaining, freshman
Dave Garcia (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mt. East) drilled a three pointer to even the game back up at 67-67.
After a big defensive stop on the next MU possession, Hepburn went to work and with the shot clock winding down hit a pull-up jumper and drew the foul, igniting the hometown crowd.
Hepburn hit the free throw and The Haven led 70-67 with 2:32 to play.
The two teams were even at 73-73 at the end of regulation, forcing the overtime period. It marked the first time since the 2009-10 season that LHU played an overtime game.
Millersville shot 5-for-11 from the field in the overtime period to pick up the 87-79 win.
Garcia finished with 11 points for LHU and
Terrell Johnson (Philadelphia/Imhotep Charter) added 10 points.
Millersville was led by Elijah Obade, who netted 19 points and grabbed 21 rebounds.
The Bald Eagles return to action tomorrow (December 2) when they host Shippensburg University at Thomas Fieldhouse at 3 p.m.
