Women’s Basketball falls at Mercyhurst in PSAC West opener; Hilliard nets 18 points

Box Score ERIE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (2-4, 0-3 PSAC) fell on the road today to Mercyhurst (2-3, 2-1 PSAC), 69-55 in its 2012 PSAC West opener.

Freshman J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) led LHU with a career-high 18 points in the game.

Hilliard connected on 6-of-14 field goals, including 2-of-4 three-pointers.  She added three rebounds.

Kacie Hershey (Cochranville, Pa./Octorara) netted five points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for LHU.

The Haven trailed Mercyhurst 35-17 at the halftime break and MU opened up a 21-point lead, 42-21 with 16:31 to play in the game.

With 6:03 to play, Hilliard hit a three-pointer to cut the Laker lead to just nine points, 55-46.

Kelsey Ryan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) scored six points and grabbed nine rebounds on the day.

Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) chipped in with nine points for The Haven.

Mercyhurst had three players score in double-figures, led by Dana Banda's 18 points.

The Lady Eagles return to action Tuesday, December 18 when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a PSAC crossover matchup.  Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
