Lady Eagles drop tough game to # 21 IUP at home

Freshmen Mealing and Lane lead the way for LHU

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (8-16, 7-14 PSAC) fell to No. 21 Indiana (Pa.) University (20-5, 16-5 PSAC) 63-49 tonight at home in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

Freshman Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa/Altoona) continued her streak of hot starts in the first half, as she scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds in the period.  She finished the game with a double-double, with a career-high 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Mealing's 14 points and 14 rebounds were both game-highs.

Mealing has now recorded back-to-back double-doubles and has three in her last four games.  She is the first player to record back-to-back double-doubles for LHU this season.

Freshman Samantha Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) also had a strong first half for LHU, scoring eight points in the opening period.  She finished the game with 13 points on 5-for-12 shooting.

Sharay Hall (Philadelphia/Carver) scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Lady Eagles.

Arlana Roland (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) also chipped in for LHU with six points and five rebounds.

The Lady Eagles played a strong defensive first half, forcing 12 IUP turnovers and grabbing 10 offensive rebounds in the period.  The Haven trailed by just four points, 31-27 at the break.

IUP was led by Amy Fairman, who scored 13 points and Sarah Pastorek, who scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles wrap up their season Saturday, February 25 when they host Mercyhurst University at 1 p.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse.
