LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (0-1) fell to Kutztown University (3-2) 12-1 tonight in its season opener at the Builder Invitational hosted by the Apprentice School in Hampton, Virginia.
Cory Dorman (Mifflinburg, Pa./Alleghany College of Maryland),
Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) and
Brian Zysset (Loyalsock,Pa./Loyalsock Township) each had singles for the Bald Eagles
Hartman and Zysset's singles were the first hits of their LHU careers.
Kevin Cressman (Huntingdon, Pa./Mansfield University) drove in the lone run for the Bald Eagles on a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
Matt Hendrixson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) got the start on the mound for The Haven.
Hendrixson threw 4.2 innings, giving up seven earned runs on seven hits and he walked 11. He struck out three batters.
Kyle Schubert (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) made his LHU debut in relief, throwing two scoreless innings while striking out two.
The game was tied 1-1 through two innings before Kutztown put up three runs in the fourth and the Golden Bears added six runs in the fifth inning.
Dominick Ruscitti got the start on the mound for Kutztown. He gave up one earned run while striking out five in five innings of work.
Corey Buletza led the Golden Bears at the plate with five RBIs.
Lock Haven continues action tomorrow at the Builder Invitational with a pair of games as the Bald Eagles take on Briarcliffe at 3 p.m. and Bloomsburg at 6 p.m.
