SALISBURY, N.C. – The Lock Haven University softball team opened the 2012 season today with a 9-1 win over Tiffin at the Catawba Invitational in Salisbury, N.C.

The Lady Eagles offense was fueled by three home runs including a three-run shot by Amanda Fernandez (Cheltenham, Pa./Nazareth Academy).

Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) and Erin Clary (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) both homered for The Haven.

Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) picked up the win in the pitcher's circle.

Brittany Favazza (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) went 1-for-3 at the plate with a RBI.

Lock Haven's second game today against Fairmont State didn't make it out of the first inning before being called because of a strong storm. Lock Haven will now play three tomorrow.

LHU takes on Fairmont State at 2 p.m. and faces Wingate at 4 p.m. (Tentative).

The Lady Eagles close out play in North Carolina on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. with a game against Davis & Elkins.
