Baseball opens up PSAC West play; Drops doubleheader to Clarion

LHU falls 5-3 in game one and 7-4 in game two

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (4-12-1, 0-2 PSAC) dropped both games of a doubleheader today to Clarion University (3-7, 2-0 PSAC) to open up 2012 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at a neutral site in Due West, S.C.

The Bald Eagles fell 5-3 in game one.

Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) led the way at the plate, as he went 1-for-2 and scored all three of The Haven's runs.

Matt Hendrixson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) got the start on the mound in game one for LHU and threw a complete game in the loss.

LHU dropped game two 7-4.

Once again, Hartman led the Bald Eagles at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Nick Cummings (Akron, N.Y./Akron) was the starting pitcher in game two for The Haven and really settled in after allowing a first inning homerun.  He struck out six hitters in 5.2 innings of work.

Corey Hepfer (Springfield, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) threw the final 1.1 innings for LHU.

The Bald Eagles wrap up their 2012 Spring Break Trip tomorrow (March 17) when they again battle Clarion in PSAC West play in Due West, S.C.  The Bald Eagles return to action in the Keystone State Friday, March 23 when they welcome Slippery Rock University to Foundation Field for the 2012 home-opener.
