Softball splits in Florida; LHU downs Bentley 10-2 before being edged by Hillsdale 8-6

Haven scores 10 runs on nine hits in win over Bentley

CLERMONT, Fla.  – The Lock Haven University softball team (8-7) split a pair of games today at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.

Lock Haven cruised past Bentley 10-2 in five innings, but the Lady Eagles were edged 8-6 by Hillsdale.

In the win over Bentley, LHU scored its 10 runs on nine hits. The Haven scored four in the top of the second and tacked on six more runs in the top of the fourth.

Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) went 2-for-2 with four RBIs.

Alyssa Smith (Barrington, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Bridgette Clarke (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) drove in three runs.

Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) picked up the win, striking out four while improving to 4-4 on the year.

LHU jumped out to a 6-1 lead after 2.5 innings against Hillsdale, but HC rallied for the win, 8-6.

Amanda Fernandez (Cheltenham, Pa./Nazareth Academy) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Lady Eagles round out their Florida trip tomorrow (Saturday, March 17) with a pair of games (Hillsdale 1 p.m. & Merrimack 3 p.m.).
