Baseball drops PSAC West doubleheader to Clarion

LHU falls 11-9 in game one and 8-5 in nine innings in game two

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (4-14-1, 0-4 PSAC) dropped both games of a doubleheader today to Clarion University (5-7, 4-0 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at a neutral site in Due West, S.C.

Lock Haven fell in game one 11-9.

The Bald Eagles got off to a quick start in game one as they batted around in the first inning to take an early 5-0 lead.  Clarion took the lead in the second inning 7-5, but the Bald Eagles battled back to tie the game at 7-7.

Trailing 11-9 in their final at bat, the Bald Eagles advanced the tying run to second base, but were unable to tie the game.

Brandon Renoll (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) started on the mound for The Haven and threw six innings.  Alec Jacob (Newtown, Pa./Pennsbury) came on in relief to throw the final inning.

Kevin Cressman (Huntingdon, Pa./Mansfield University) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Scott Zuback (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) went 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI.

Jerico Weitzel led Clarion at the plate as he went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs.

The Bald Eagles dropped a thrilling game two 8-5 in nine innings.

LHU trailed 4-0 in its final at bat, but the Bald Eagles were able to tie the game 4-4 to force extra innings.

Clarion scored one run in the its half of the eighth inning to take a 5-4 lead, but once again, The Haven rallied and knotted the game at 5-5, before falling in the ninth inning.

Collin Mills (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) got the nod on the mound in game two. Mills went six strong innings and gave up just two earned runs while striking out three batters.  David Masteller (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) came in to pitch the final three innings in relief.

Cressman and Zuback once again were the top hitters for LHU in game two.

Cressman went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Zuback went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Jon Roncolato started on the mound for Clarion and threw 7.2 innings, striking out four hitters.

Today's games wrapped up The Haven's 2012 Spring Break Trip.  The Bald Eagles return to action Friday, March 23 when they welcome Slippery Rock University to Foundation Field for the 2012 home-opener.
