Bald Eagles fall to host Shepherd 12-2

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. –
The Lock Haven University baseball team (3-4) fell today to Shepherd University (5-4) 12-2 on day one of the Shepherd Tournament in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

Both of LHU's runs came off of the bat of freshman Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate University) who hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning.

The home run marked the second for Botts on the young season.

Jose Diaz (Oak Ridge, N.J./Gloucester County College) and Ryan Watkins (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) each recorded doubles for LHU.

Watkins went 2-for-3 on the day at the plate.

Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) and Casey Hamilton (Roaring Spring, Pa./Central Martinsburg) each went 1-for-4 for The Haven.

Collin Mills (Union Bridge, M.d./Francis Scott Key) was the starting pitcher for LHU.

Mills struck out six hitters in four innings of work while giving up seven earned runs in the loss.

Nick Cummings (Akron, N.Y./Akron) pitched four innings of relief and recorded two strike outs.

Nate Minnich led Shepherd with two home runs and five RBIs for the game.

The Bald Eagles continue action at the Shepherd Tournament tomorrow (Saturday, March 3) when they take on Bloomsburg University.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
