CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (11-10) split a thrilling doubleheader today at California (Pa.) University (19-5).
Lock Haven won game one, 2-0 in thrilling fashion before Cal came back to take game two, 4-3.
The Lady Eagles scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the game-one win in a true-pitcher's duel.
LHU managed just two hits, but it was all The Haven needed as the Lady Eagles ace was equally impressive.
Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) went the distance for the win. She stuck out five and allowed just four hits in seven innings of work.
Erin Clary's (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) RBI-single down the right field line made it 2-0 in the top of the seventh and gave Lock Haven the all-important insurance run.
The Vulcans rallied at home to take game two, 4-3.
LHU lead 3-0 through five innings and held onto a 3-1 lead after six, but Cal used three runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.
The Haven's three runs came off nine game-two hits. Clary led the way again and went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Sarah Schwalm (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) was also 2-for-3 at the plate.
Alicia Cacciotti (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) and
Bridgette Clarke (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) both recorded RBIs.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Friday (March 30) when the open play at home vs. Clarion University (2:30 p.m.). Lock Haven is right back at it on Saturday (March 31) at home vs. Millersville (1 p.m.).
