CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lock Haven University softball team (3-4) opened its annual Spring Break Trip to Florida with a pair of losses today (Friday, March 9) at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.
Lock Haven dropped its first game today to UMass Lowell 6-1. A four-run top half of the sixth inning proved to be huge for the Riverhawks.
Despite a strong rally, LHU fell in game two today, 6-4 to the nation's 12th ranked team in Winona State.
Alicia Cacciotti (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) went 2-for-3 and
Erin Clary (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) drove in the Lady Eagles lone run in the bottom of the fourth against UMass Lowell.
With the win UMass Lowell improved to 5-1 on the season.
Winona State improved to 12-1 on the season behind a strong pitching effort.
LHU trailed 6-1 after two and a half innings, but the Lady Eagles rallied to post two runs in the bottom of the third.
Cacciotti continued her strong hitting against Winona. She was 2-for-3 with a RBI and
Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) was 2-for-2 with a RBI.
Clary was also solid again at the plate. The shortstop went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) struck out five.
Lock Haven is right back it tomorrow (Saturday, March 10). The Haven will take on Georgian Court at 8:30 a.m. and No. 12 Winona State at 10:30 a.m.
