LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (12-21-1) came back from a six run deficit in the eighth inning to defeat Shippensburg University (23-16) 10-8 today in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover matchup.
LHU took an early lead in the game, scoring two runs in the first inning. However, the Red Raiders pitching would settle down through the middle innings and Ship was able to string some hits together to open up an 8-2 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning.
After picking up two quick outs in the eighth, the rain and winds came, causing for a 10 minute delay.
After the rain subsided, the Bald Eagle bats came to life, as they would score eight runs in the inning with two outs, highlighted by a three-run triple from freshman
Ryan Henritzy (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North).
Henritzy went 2-for-4 on the day with a game-high three RBIs.
Scott Zuback (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) also had a big day at the plate, as he went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. He recorded one stolen base and scored two runs.
Dakota Roof (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Eric Regel (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) also had a big RBI single for The Haven. He finished the game 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Jeff Ross (Danville, Pa./Danville) had an RBI double in his lone plate appearance.
Kyle Schubert (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) got the nod on the mound for LHU. Schubert battled through six innings of work and struck out four.
Matt Hendrixson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and
Corey Hepfer (Springfield, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) pitched the middle innings for the Bald Eagles. Hepfer was credited with his second win of the season as he struck out two batters in two innings of work.
Freshman
Ryan Boyer (Tremont, Pa./Pine Grove) came on and pitched a great ninth inning on his way to locking down his first career save. He struck out two.
The Bald Eagles are back in action this weekend as they open up a huge series with California (Pa.) University. Cal currently sits atop the PSAC West standings. LHU will play at Cal on Friday (April 13) before hosting the Vulcans on Saturday (April 14) at Foundation Field.
