LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (18-15, 5-5 PSAC Central) battled back to take game two of its PSAC Central doubleheader today with visiting IUP (19-11-1, 6-4 PSAC Central) as the Lady Eagles earned an important split.
IUP won game one 6-3, but Lock Haven shutout the Crimson Hawks 4-0 in the second game.
Lock Haven's three game-one runs came off six hits. All six of The Haven's hits came from a different player including
Sarah Schwalm (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and
Chelsea Edwards (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), who each drove in one run.
Despite the losing effort, pitcher
Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) struck out four.
In game two, The Haven plated four runs on nine hits and got another solid pitching outing from
Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton).
Smith struck out seven and scattered three hits in a complete-game effort.
Alicia Cacciotti (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) was on fire at the plate in game two. She went 3-for-4 with two doubles to spark the offense.
Brittany Favazza (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) went 2-for-3 with a RBI.
Lock Haven returns to action on Saturday (April 14) at Clarion University in PSAC Central action (1 p.m.).
