WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (13-22-1, 7-11 PSAC) split a big doubleheader today at California (Pa.) University (22-14, 10-4 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
LHU fell 4-1 in game one but won game two, 6-1.
The Bald Eagles scored one run on four hits in game one.
LHU scored their lone run of the game in the first inning off of Cal starter Kyle Petty.
Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) led off the game with an infield single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Ryan Henritzy (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North).
After reaching third base on a fielder's choice, Hartman scored on a single to center field off the bat of
Kevin Cressman (Huntingdon, Pa./Mansfield University).
Hartman and Cressman both finished the game 1-for-3 at the plate.
Henritzy went 1-for-2 with a double.
David Masteller (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) started on the mound for The Haven and went the distance. Masteller allowed four runs while striking out two.
The Bald Eagles took game two, 6-1.
Nick Cummings (Akron, N.Y./Akron) threw a great game for The Haven in game two.
Cummings went all seven innings and allowed just one run on five hits. He struck out one batter and didn't allow a walk on his way to picking up his second win of the season.
With the game tied 1-1 in the sixth inning, LHU batted through the order, smacking four hits and scoring five runs to take a 6-1 lead. All five runs came with two outs in the inning.
Josh Jones (Neelyton, Pa./Southern-Huntingdon) led LHU at the plate going 2-for-2 with three RBIs.
Dakota Roof (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) also had a big game. Roof was 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate University) went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and
Scott Zuback (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) was 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.
The Bald Eagles are right back in action tomorrow (April 14), as they close out their crucial weekend series with Cal at Foundation Field. The Vulcans currently sit atop the PSAC West standings. First pitch of tomorrow's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
