CLARION, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (20-15, 7-5 PSAC Central) scored 17 runs on 18 hits as the Lady Eagles swept an important PSAC Central doubleheader at Clarion University (8-26, 0-12 PSAC Central) today.
Lock Haven won game one 9-1 in six innings and LHU shutout Clarion 8-0 in game two (5 innings).
In game one, LHU scored nine runs on nine hits and The Haven got a solid outing from pitcher
Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover).
The offense scored three runs in the top the first and second inning to go along with two runs in the third, which backed up Morse's four-strikeout effort.
Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. She also homered in game two, giving her 13 on the year, which ties her for the most in the PSAC this year.
Nikki Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) kept her bat going and went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.
In game two, LHU once again jumped all over Clarion early scoring seven runs over the first two innings.
Smith struck out four and scattered five hits on the way to the win in the pitcher's circle. She helped her own cause, going 1-for-3 with a two-run home run.
Weaknecht went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Sarah Schwalm (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) added a pair of hits.
The Lady Eagles return to action tomorrow (Sunday, April 15) at home vs. Shippensburg University (1 p.m.).
