DRIFTON, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (26-16) opened the 2012 PSAC Tournament with a 9-5 win over Shippensburg University (18-25) today in Drifton, Pa.
The Lady Eagles scored nine runs off 10 hits, jumping all over Ship early after scoring five runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Shippensburg made a game of it and it was 6-3 LHU when
Bridgette Clarke (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) drilled a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Brittany Favazza (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored and
Alyssa Smith (Barrington, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) drove in a pair of Haven runs.
Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) picked up the win in the circle after seven solid innings of work. She allowed nine hits and two walks, while striking out three Raider batters.
Shippensburg scored five runs on nine hits. Kristin McClune was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Jessie Trammell was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Lock Haven will return to action tomorrow (Thursday, April 25) at 1 p.m. The Lady Eagles will meet the winner of today's (Wednesday) 4 p.m. game between No. 23 California (Pa.) and Indiana (Pa.) Universities.
