Baseball drops two today at #23 Mercyhurst

Renoll and Masteller throw well; Bald Eagles fall 3-0 in game one and 2-1 in game two

ERIE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (10-20-1, 5-9 PSAC) fell in both games of a doubleheader today at No. 23 Mercyhurst University (24-8, 7-3 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

LHU fell 3-0 in game one and 2-1 in game two.

The Bald Eagles received solid pitching performances from David Masteller (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) and Brandon Renoll (Hanover, Pa./Hanover), but were unable to secure a victory on the road.

Masteller started on the mound in game one and threw all six innings, giving up just three runs on eight hits while striking out six Laker hitters.

Mercyhurst senior pitcher Eric Aschley held The Haven offense in check in the game, allowing just one hit.

Jose Diaz (Oak Ridge, N.J./Gloucester County College) had the lone LHU hit, as he went 1-for-3 for the game.

Renoll was the game two starter for LHU and allowed two runs on five hits.  He relinquished just one walk and struck out two for the game.

Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) led LHU at the plate, going 2-for-3 in the game.

Cory Dorman (Mifflinburg, Pa./Alleghany College of Maryland), Kevin Cressman (Huntingdon, Pa./Mansfield University) and Dakota Roof (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) all tallied hits for The Haven, as they each went 1-for-3.

Roof scored the lone run for Lock Haven in the third inning on a wild pitch.

Mercyhurst pitcher Ben Rawding recorded nine strikeouts in the game.

The Bald Eagles are right back in action tomorrow (April 7), as they close out their weekend series with Mercyhurst at Foundation Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
