LOCK HAVEN, Pa.  – The Lock Haven University softball team (15-12, 4-2 PSAC Central) split a doubleheader with rival Bloomsburg University (22-8, 4-2 PSAC Central) today in PSAC Central action.

Lock Haven won 8-0 in five innings in game one before Bloom battled back for a 9-5 win in game two.

The two rivals came into the day sitting in a tie for first in the Central Division and they both end the day in the same spot with identical 4-2 conference marks.

Lock Haven's eight game-one runs came on six hits as the Lady Eagles jumped on Bloom early and often on the way to the five-inning, 8-0 shutout.

Chelsea Edwards (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) drilled a two-run home run to deep center field in the bottom of the second inning to put LHU up 2-0.

The Lady Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the third to pave the way for the shortened game.

Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo shot to left field, which ended the game. It was her ninth home run of the year, which has her ranked among the PSAC's best.

Smith was 3-for-3 at the plate and Nikki Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover) was masterful in the pitching circle. She threw a five-inning one-hitter. She allowed zero walks and struck out four.

Lock Haven recorded 10 hits in game two, but could only plate five runs.

Smith was 2-for-3 with a RBI and Brittany Favazza (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) went 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored.

Lock Haven hits the road tomorrow (Saturday, April 7) for a PSAC Central doubleheader at Mansfield University (1 p.m.).
