LHU drops game one 9-3, but wins game two 3-1

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (11-21-1, 6-10 PSAC) split a doubleheader today with No. 23 Mercyhurst University (25-9, 8-4 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

Lock Haven fell in game one 9-3.

Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) led the Bald Eagles at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.

Cory Dorman (Mifflinburg, Pa./Alleghany College of Maryland), Ryan Henrizty (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and Kevin Cressman (Huntingdon, Pa./Mansfield University) each had one hit for LHU.

Nick Cummings (Akron, N.Y./Akron) started on the mound for The Haven.  Cummings threw 4.1 innings before Corey Hepfer (Springfield, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) came in relief to finish the game.

The Bald Eagles picked up a big 3-1 win in game two behind the pitching of freshman Collin Mills (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key).

Mills threw all seven innings for The Haven and allowed just one run on three hits while striking out two Laker hitters.

Mills has now earned a complete game win in each of his last three starts.

Dorman led LHU at the plate going 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Josh Jones (Neelyton, Pa./Southern-Huntingdon) recorded the lone extra-base hit for The Haven, an RBI double in the second inning.  He finished the game 1-for-3.

Jose Diaz (Oak Ridge, N.J./Gloucester County College) and Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate University) each went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Bald Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the second inning and never allowed Mercyhurst to regain control on their way to the 3-1 win.

With the win in the final game today, LHU snapped an 11 game losing streak against Mercyhurst, with their last win coming on March 28, 2009.

The Bald Eagles return to action this Tuesday (April 10) when they host Shippensburg University at Foundation Field for a single nine inning game.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
