SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Lock Haven University softball team (17-14) swept a doubleheader today at Shepherd University (26-17) in non-conference action. Lock Haven won 3-0 and 4-2.
LHU won game one 3-0 behind a four-hit effort from pitcher
Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover). She scattered four hits over seven innings of work and struck out six on the way to the shutout victory.
The Haven's three runs came off eight hits including two from reigning PSAC Central Player of the Week
Nikki Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown), who continued her red-hot hitting streak. She was 2-for-2 with a RBI and run scored.
Alyssa Smith (Barrington, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) was 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
In game two, Lock Haven's four runs came off four hits and LHU got another solid pitching outing.
This time around it was
Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) going to work in the pitcher's circle. She struck out seven, while scattering four hits.
N. Smith helped her own cause as hit her team-leading 11th home run of the year.
Weaknecht was at it again in game two and hit her third home run in as many games.
Chelsea Edwards (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Lady Eagles return to action tomorrow at home when The Haven hosts IUP in a crucial PSAC Central doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
