Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Nakira Downes (Bridgetown, Barbados/The Combermere School) scored the first two goals for her Lady Eagle career yesterday and today she picked up right where she left off, scoring the game-winner in double overtime as the Lock Haven University field hockey team dropped visiting Colgate, 3-2 (2OT).

With the win, the Lady Eagles (6-3) remain a perfect 3-0 this season in overtime games. The win over Colgate (1-6) capped off a perfect 2-0 weekend for LHU, who topped Vermont 4-1 yesterday, thanks a pair of goals from Downes.

Downes had several chances in the first overtime period to put the game away, but was unable to finish until early in the second overtime. Just 5:28 in, the speedy forward found herself behind the Colgate defense, where she ripped a shot far post and past Raider goalie Amanda DiDomizio.

Colgate took a 1-0 lead early in the match after Halle Biggar dribbled past The Haven defense and beat starting-goalie Kelsey Moll (Newmanstown, Pa./Elco) with a backhand shot to the near post.

Lock Haven got things level again in the 25th minute after Stephanie Ebersole (Elizabethtown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) scored the first of her two goals on the day.

The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1, at halftime, but again Colgate took the lead in the 62nd minute after Biggar scored her second of the day.

Late in the second half, Ebersole struck up some late-game magic and with less than six minutes to play she deflected a ball far post to make it 2-2, forcing extra time.

Downes, who enjoyed her breakout game yesterday, took over the match in overtime, creating several good chances in the first overtime period. Finally in the 91st minute of play she broke free of the Raider defense and buried the ball in the back of the net.

Kelly Harsh (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) led LHU on defense and added one assist.

Moll made two saves, but gave way to Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Lion) late in regulation.  White, who earned the win, made three saves.

LHU returns to action on Saturday, September 22 at Rider (noon) and the Lady Eagles host Indiana on Sunday (Sept. 23) at noon.
