LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (2-4) claimed its first two wins of the season today as it downed Malone University and LIU-Post on day one of the LHU Classic.

In their first match of the day, the Lady Eagles won a five-set thriller over Malone (25-17, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 15-9) to snag their first win of the season.

Gao Xuan (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School) paced the LHU attack, recording a match-high 19 kills.  Xuan added nine digs and four total blocks.

Bailey Farthing (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) had a solid match, tallying 11 kills and three total blocks.

Grace Novacek (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) chipped in with nine kills and five total blocks.

Alexa Garrity (Boothwyn, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) controlled the match for LHU and recorded a season-high 49 assists.

The Lady Eagles dropped LIU-Post 3-1 (24-26, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20).

This time it was Farthing and Novacek, who led the way for LHU.

Farthing recorded 12 kills and six total blocks.

Novacek also had 12 kills and added a match-high nine blocks.

Cody Anderson (Johnsonburg, Pa./Johnsonburg) had 11 kills for The Haven.

Erin Walsh (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) stalled the LIU-Post attack, recording 24 digs.

The Lady Eagles are right back in action tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 8) when they wrap up the 2012 LHU Classic with two more matches.  The Haven will battle Alderson-Broaddus at 11 a.m. and Ashland and 3 p.m.
