Bald Eagles drop tough road game at Mansfield, 82-78

LHU back in action Wednesday (January 17) when they host Slippery Rock

Box Score MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (5-7, 3-6 PSAC) dropped a tough road game to Mansfield (4-8, 2-6 PSAC) tonight, 82-78.

The Mounties shot 53.3 % (8-for-15) on three-pointers in the first half, but LHU stayed in the game thanks to nine points from Kasheef Festus (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carrol) and eight points from Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti).

Down 45-37, with 17:09 to play, LHU went on a 10-0 run to take a 47-45 lead, their first lead since the 9:55 mark of the first half.  The Bald Eagles would push the lead to 54-51 with 12:06 to play, but that would be LHU's last lead of the game.

The Bald Eagles trailed 75-68 with 3:48 to play, but LHU was once again resilient and went on a 6-0 run to cut the Mansfield lead to just one, 75-74 with 1:40 remaining.

Hepburn, who entered tonight's game as the PSAC's leading scorer (24.1 points per game), finished with a game-high 24 points, while Festus finished with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Terrell Johnson (Philadelphia/Imhotep Charter) had a solid all-around game for LHU.  Johnson netted five points, dished out a career-high nine assists and tallied a career-high seven steals in the game.

Johnson's nine assists are the most by any Bald Eagle this season and he is the first Bald Eagle to record more than five steals in a game since Chris Franklin had eight steals on December 4, 1993.

Dave Garcia (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mt. East) finished with 12 points for LHU.

Mansfield was led by Joe Bell's 23 points.

The Bald Eagles return to action Wednesday (January 16) when they host Slippery Rock University in a PSAC West matchup at Thomas Fieldhouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
