Lady Eagles pick up tough road win at Mansfield, 75-69; Hilliard records first career double-double

LHU back in action Wednesday (January 17) when they host Slippery Rock

Box Score MANSFIELD, Pa. – Freshman J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) recorded her first career double-double as the Lock Haven University women's basketball team (5-8, 2-7 PSAC) picked up a tough 75-69 road win tonight at Mansfield (4-9, 2-7 PSAC).

Mansfield led for most of the first half, but the Lady Eagles kept battling.  With 25 seconds remaining in the half, Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) made a fast-break layup and drew the foul, converting a three-point-play that would cut the Mountie lead to just two, 39-37 at the break.

Lane finished the first half with a team-high 10 points.

Hilliard sparked the Lady Eagles with nine points, five rebounds and three assists in the first period.

Mansfield opened the second half on a 12-2 run and opened its largest lead of the game, 51-39 with 15:06 remaining. 

The Lady Eagles would not go away however, and went on a 10-1 run of their own over the next five minutes, cutting the MU lead to 52-49.

Trailing 68-64, with 2:30 to play, LHU mounted an 11-1 run to close out the game and seal the road victory. 

Hilliard finished with a team-high 15 points and set career-highs with 11 rebounds and six assists.

Kelsey Ryan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) had a big second half for LHU.  Ryan scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half.

Lane finished with 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals for LHU.

Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) and Adrianna Berry (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) each netted 10 points for The Haven.

Katie Fitzpatrick led Mansfield with 20 points.

The Lady Eagles return to action Wednesday (January 16) when they host Slippery Rock University in a PSAC West matchup at Thomas Fieldhouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
